Known as the capital of the television and film industry, Southern California consists of major cities, seaside towns and several suburbs. The coastline, valleys and mountains also help lure visitors to the area. If you are planning a visit to the area, you will have plenty of ways to stay busy. From outdoor activities to cultural institutions to shopping centers, there is an abundance of things to do in Southern California.
Attend a TV show taping. Numerous sitcoms, talk shows, games shows and award shows are taped around the area. Go online to search for how to acquire tickets to your favorite show. If you are unable to get tickets, opt for a tour of a studio.
Take in a ball game. The region offers professional basketball, football and baseball teams. Professional volleyball, golf, auto racing and tennis are offered at various times throughout the year. Additionally, several universities offer major college-level competition. Check online for ticket and schedule information.
There is more to experience at museums than viewing art work and historical and cultural exhibits. Search online or ask a museum staffer for a calendar of events and make plans to attend a concert, lecture or film festival at a museum.
Head out to the coast. Swim, surf, wake board or set sail from one of the several public beaches in the area. For fun on the shore, try volleyball or skating.
Go on a shopping spree. For fashion lovers, there are several shops that sell vintage clothing as well as boutiques that carry the latest designs from major designers. Traditional shopping malls, flea markets, tourist shops and farmers markets are also available.
A visit to one of the major theme parks in the area will take a whole day – or even two days. If you prefer smaller parks, try water parks or go on the rides at an amusement park at or near a beach.
Several parks and campgrounds allow both tent and RV camping. Fishing, boating, hiking and biking are examples of outdoor recreation available during most of the year. During the winter months, skiing, tubing and snowboarding are available in the mountains.
As you can see, there are plenty of things to do in Southern California. Though it may take many hours to sort through all that the area has to offer, plan out an itinerary in advance to make the most of your visit.
